Montreal, Canada– AIM, Inc. and the Cookson Group plc announced today that they have signed a worldwide license agreement for AIM's patented lead-free alloy, trade-named CASTIN. The agreement enables the entire Cookson group of companies to manufacture and sell the CASTIN alloy throughout the world.

The industry’s desire to use one alloy for both processes is very strong, particularly when considering any potential rework situations and alloy compatibility. Due to the fact that the CASTIN alloy has about 1% lower silver content, compared to most common lead-free alternatives, it clearly has a significant cost advantage for materials such as bar solder and wire solder."
CASTIN is an environmentally-friendly, lead-free solder comprised of tin, silver, copper and antimony. It features a relatively low melting temperature, offers superior joint strength, and inhibits intermetallic growth during high thermal temperature cycling. CASTIN contains commonly found, non-toxic elemental constituents.
