Cranston, Rhode Island - AIM Solder, a partner in the Conflict-Free Tin Initiative (CFTI), is pleased to announce that the initial order of tin through a controlled CFTI supply chain in the South Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is scheduled to arrive at the AIM Montreal plant on the 15th of August. The origin mine is validated as conflict-free by a multi-stakeholder team, including officials of the Congolese Government, the United Nations, the German Geological Service, and PACT.
In 2010, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act was passed in the US, focusing on human rights and conflict minerals, making companies responsible for sourcing conflict-free materials. The CFTI has created a tightly controlled supply chain which provides a way for companies worldwide to purchase conflict-free materials from the Eastern DRC in such a way that complies with the Reform Act in pursuit of better mining methods, economic development, and regional stability for the people of the DRC.

Along with AIM Solder, other industry partners include Royal Philips Electronics, Motorola Solutions, BlackBerry and Fairphone. The Dutch government has lead numerous industry partners along the supply chain, from the mine to the end user, successfully gaining support from local exporters and mining cooperatives to create this initiative. Support is also provided by the United States and Congolese governments.
